So I decided to explore some new colors
and I like what I found.I’m going to come back to this palette again but
I need to think about the compositions for them. This painting was
really fun to paint, primarily for the color exploration, yet the
movement was something that I enjoyed working with. The most frustrating
part was waiting for the different layers to dry so that I could go
back to painting it.
So, this piece started off rather simply
with only a 2 or 3 colors; but that changed once I started really
getting into this painting. The other fun fact is that this painting was
flipped upside down from it’s initial composition to what is now before
you.
The complimentary painting
to my previous piece, “Static and Storm”. Really challenging to paint
the layers on this as there were so many great textures happening that I
didn’t want to cover up. I’m also digging this color scheme at the moment.
This one went
through a few revisions, like most of my paintings. I was attempting
something new with it; but as I was working on it the composition didn’t
glow right. So I took a break started another painting and came back to
this with a fresher perspective. Hope you like.
Another painting that just quite feel done from a couple years ago. This was one of my last pieces that I worked on with textured minimalism. I was trying something a little different with this at the time, but didn’t feel like it executed well. I LOVED the colors that I used so I went back and expanded on the idea that I intended to have with it, but more in an expressive style.
Another painting that just didn’t quite feel done from a couple years ago. This painting, in its initial form was one of the first paintings in my expressive style. I was starting to play around with more movement and lines. I had a slight vision of where I initially wanted to go with it, but felt impeded at the time. Over the course of 2 years I’ve always come back to this piece with frustration as this piece really never was finished…until now. It was pretty neat to see where this was going now with perspective and hindsight in hand. Really cool seeing my artistic journey.
This is a wonderful painting to work on. I was trying some new colors and absolutely had a blast working with Paine’s Gray, I think I’ll be doing more pieces using Paine’s Gray. Not sure where I was going with this one as I had a sketch laid out just went with wherever. The result was 60% intuitive, 40% planning. I think the result is quite energetic and fun.
This
one was started at the same time as “The Queen’s Tear” and was meant to
be a complimentary painting. Both paintings diverged a bit from the
initial intent but still work together. I think this might be my last
painting of the year, unless I get really inspired. We’ll see.
Was working on this in conjunction with my previous painting. Though they look like the can be side by side, I didn’t intend for them be dyptic, but can technically work that way. Again, I had lots of fun working on the background and the colors were something that I wanted to work with as well.
Truly fun to paint this. I enjoyed
working with a very limited color palette on this one. I wanted to keep
the colors simple and really play around with atmosphere and lines.
This one went through a few revisions. I
was attempting something new with it; but as I was painting it took on a
life of its own. Not in the usual way that I’m a bit use to with my
work. Meaning that I usually hit a brick wall and then realize that it
works best upside down…not the case this time. While painting this,
hit the proverbial wall and discovered that it was more of a detour sign
and it allowed me a bit more freedom to play around. Hope you like.
